This season will not fall completely on the shoulders of free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins, the NFL’s first $84 million quarterback. However, the Vikings believe and have identified Cousins as the quarterback who can lead them where they have never been: Super Bowl Champions!

Colin Kaepernick: the face of Nike’s ‘Just Do It’ 30th Anniversary campaign (updated w/vid)
“Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything,” the ad reads. Kaepernick tweeted out the first glimpse of it on Monday. The multiyear deal includes Kaepernick apparel, a shoe and T-shirt, and Nike will also donate money to Kaepernick’s “Know Your Rights” campaign, according to the New York Times.
Vikings sustain pre-season damage
This week the Seattle Seahawks are here Friday at U.S. Bank Stadium. The new rules changes in regard to tackling and lowering your helmets while tackling have resulted in confusion among some players.
Tragedy strikes the Vikings
Sparano, in his third season with the Vikings, was 58 years old. He was one of the big reasons the Vikings had their best season in 2017 since 2004, winning 14 games and losing to eventual Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia in the NFC Championship game.
Vikings finally honor Dennis Green
It’s good the Vikings got around to honoring Dennis Green, because all he did was make NFL history. Since Kevin Warren became chief operating officer of the Vikings — he’s been here 13 years now — the first Black COO of an NFL franchise and the highest ranking Black executive on the business side of an NFL team.
Vikings to induct Dennis Green into Ring of Honor
Dennis Green’s Ring of Honor induction will take place during a halftime ceremony at the Vikings game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, September 23, at U.S. Bank Stadium.
The NFL’s ‘anthem policy’ is pure hypocrisy
The NFL’s new “anthem policy” requires players to “respect” the flag and the national anthem or stay in the locker room until it is played. The NFL refers to this as a compromise — it was anything but. This was a mandate, not a decision arrived at through a collaborative process. Despite claiming that they […]
Are the Vikings ready to go?
After going 14-4 and losing the NFC Championship to Philadelphia, are the Vikings positioned to go to Atlanta next February and win it all?
Are the Vikings the team to beat?
Time will tell. That’s what many are saying now that the Vikings have signed the NFL’s number-one free agent star quarterback, Kirk Cousins, to a record $84 million guaranteed contract. Viking’s ownership is not backing off, going all out to win Minnesota’s first-ever Super Bowl. Never before has an NFL team signed a player to […]
NFL player protests still hotly debated
The just-completed 2017 NFL season crowned a new champion after a season where player protests over the country’s racial inequities and injustices, by either taking a knee or raising a closed fist in the air during the national anthem, took place as well. A January 30 panel discussion during Super Bowl week at the University […]
Eagles dog Patriots 41-33! (photos)
The city of Philadelphia is famous for many things: the Liberty Bell, Rocky, unruly fans, booing Santa Claus, Philadelphia Cream Cheese and Philly steak sandwiches. Move over — the Eagles are now the center of attention in the east after using power-muscle and Nick at Night to deny the Patriots their record-tying sixth Super Bowl. […]
Minnesota salutes seven of its own with Super Bowl ties
In honor of the Super Bowl being played at U.S. Bank Stadium, I am saluting seven Minnesota natives with ties to the big game, including a receiver who won two rings (Stacy Robinson), a tight end who captured one as a member of the winning team’s practice squad (Marcus Freeman), a lineman who persevered to experience championship greatness (Ryan Harris), a […]
Hello, world. Welcome to Super Bowl LII!
Greetings to everyone about to experience the Land of 10,000 Lakes and home of Super Bowl LII. I’m a native of Chicago, Illinois born and raised. I moved to the Twin Cities in 1978 to begin my journalism career. I jumped on the Minnesota Vikings and hitched my career to the National Football League. I […]
Alan Page: ‘It’s not a people problem, it’s a system problem’ (audio)
Former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice and NFL Hall of Famer Alan Page recently sat down with MSR Sports Columnist Larry Fitzgerald, Sr. during media festivities at the Mall of America leading up to Super Bowl 52 on Feb. 4 in Minneapolis. In the audio below, Page reflects on his Hall of Fame career, playing in […]
Eagles dominate Vikings, advance to Super Bowl LII against Patriots
Is that all there is? Historically, the painful playoff futility of the Minnesota Vikings continued with another playoff thumping: Eagles 38-Vikings 7. The Eagles — the number-one NFC team with the home-field advantage — erupted after spotting the Vikings a 7-0 lead to score 38 unanswered points and reach their third Super Bowl in franchise history. Quarterback […]
Former Black NFL quarterback honors those denied the opportunity
Listening to Greatness: Part 3 Each of the 2017 National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Sam Lacy Pioneer Award winners has a historical tale worth knowing about. The MSR heard them all at this year’s banquet during the NABJ’s August convention in New Orleans. We will share them with our readers over the next few […]
It’s Vikings vs. Eagles for the NFC title! (photos)
Last year the Patriots pulled off the most incredible comeback in Super Bowl LI against the Atlanta Falcons. On Sunday, the Vikings pulled off the most remarkable ending ever, as they snatched victory from the Saints in the first NFL playoff game that ended in regulation on the last play, a walk off touchdown — […]
FitzBeat | NFC Divisional Playoffs Preview – Vikings vs. Saints [audio]
As you may know, Larry Fitzgerald, Sr., senior sports columnist at the MSR, is still on the mend from heart surgery but remains on track for a speedy recovery. He says, “I’m on recovery road. I’m out of the hospital with a green light” and looks forward to covering Super Bowl 52. He thanks everyone for […]
Panthers humble Vikings!
Nobody said it would be easy. Remember, only the 1972 Miami Dolphins finished 17-0. You would think the world came to an end in the state of Minnesota after Carolina beat the Vikings Sunday 31-24, ending their eight-game winning streak and five-game road win streak. The Panthers scored a season-high 31 points and ran for 216 yards […]
Vikings win eighth straight
Apparently, the Vikings were just testing the waters in 2016, starting 5-0 the first year of U.S. Bank Stadium. The team went through a lot losing both Teddy Bridgewater and Adrian Peterson to injury and Mike Zimmer having several eye surgeries; the team missed the playoffs. After going 11-5 in 2015 and losing that heartbreaker 10-9 […]
