It was all bubblegum and giggles, just having a great time, until young MVP quarterback Cam Newton was humbled on the world’s biggest stage.

The countdown to Super Bowl 50 is here, and both 17-1 Carolina and 14-4 Denver are working hard getting ready for Sunday. This is the first Super Bowl in the San Francisco area since January 20, 1985 at Stanford Super Bowl XIX (San Francisco 38-Miami 16).

The much anticipated countdown to Super Bowl 50 is just three weeks away now that the table has been set with the NFC and AFC Championship games.

Oh, the pain, the pain, the pain Sunday at TCF Stadium! The Vikings, a franchise that started in 1961 with a legacy tied to the icy image of former-Hall-of- Fame head coach Bud Grant, had one shining moment to reconnect the past to the present.

The Vikings are back in the playoffs as they clinched the NFC’s final playoff spot by dominating the New York Giants 49-17 Sunday night at frigid TCF Stadium. Adrian Peterson ran for 104 yards and scored his 10th touchdown of the season.

History is being made every day by these talented young athletes who are playing large and taking charge. Carolina is 14-0 and is chasing history — over the last two years they have won 18 straight games.

Three of Minnesota’s top professional sports teams all lost in their respective games over a three-day span last week. The NFL Vikings, the NHL Wild, and NBA Timberwolves all had road games in Arizona on Thursday, December 10, Friday, December 11, and Sunday, December 13. Unfortunately they all lost.

The high-flying 10-2 Arizona Cardinals, winners of six straight games, will welcome the 8-4 Minnesota Vikings Thursday Night to University of Phoenix Stadium for a prime time (7:25 pm) showdown on the NFL Network.

The NFL’s leading rusher, Adrian Peterson, again carried the Vikings to victory over the Atlanta Falcons 20-10. It was the Vikings’ sixth win in their last seven games, and they have regained sole possession of first place in the NFC North. The Packers, now 7-4, are a game back after losing to the Bears on Thanksgiving.

Vikings and Packers are now tied for first in the NFC North at 7-3 after Green Bay came in and beat the Vikings 30-13 at sold-out TCF Bank Stadium. Packers have beaten the Vikings 10 of the last 12 meetings. The Vikings will have to wait for another chance until January 3, 2016, when they play the Packers in the regular-season finale.

Suddenly the Vikings are as hot as firecrackers. After winning their fifth straight 30-14 over the Oakland Raiders, the Vikings have taken over sole possession of first place in the NFC North.

Despite losing star quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to a concussion early in the fourth quarter, the Vikings won their fourth-straight game 21-18 in overtime over the St. Louis Rams. Kicker Blair Walsh again kicked the 40 yard game winning field goal.

It appears to be coming together for the Vikings after winning their third straight game 23-20 with a photo finish in Chicago last Sunday. The Vikings are now 5-2.

This was a hard-fought battle that took all of 60 minutes for the Vikings to prevail. They improved to 3-2 on the season after surviving the upset-minded Chiefs 16-10 Sunday at TCF Stadium. The Vikings’ 2015 season so far has been incomplete: solid at home and indifferent on the road. At 2-2, the Vikings get to regroup and figure out how they can take their show on the road and break through.

My kind of town, Chicago is, my kind of town. When you are born and raised in a great city, go away to college and later move to Minneapolis, and go home on a business trip as I did last weekend, you want to make an impression.
