The danger here is that knowledge-starved Americans … will think this case is characteristic of how racist cops are usually treated when they kill and cripple Black and Brown people. Nothing could be further from the truth.
How the legislature chooses to define each crime is another reason why second-guessing the verdict can be unfair.
