Dr. Carter G. Woodson, known as the “Father of Black History”, founded the Association of the Study of African American Life and History and established Negro History Week, which evolved into Black History Month, with the goal of integrating Black history into mainstream American education.

A task force has been formed in Florida to demand accurate teaching of African American history, culture, experiences, and contributions in public schools, and to develop 40 Freedom Schools by 2025.
