Busy week in prep, collegiate basketball
This past week I saw a matchup of two of the state’s top boys’ basketball teams, a contest between two Southside City Conference rivals, and a record-setting freshman point guard at the collegiate level in women’s hoops.
City Conference games prove competitive
Two boys’ basketball games played respectively in the St. Paul City and Minneapolis City Conferences could be an indication of things to come in terms of competitiveness.
Johnsons captures section championship
With his brother, 2007 Johnson graduate Tyrell Barze — a standout in his own right on the football team during his high school career — contributing his wisdom to the Governors as an assistant coach, the older Barze looked on as sophomore Joey Moberg’s two touchdown runs, Nelson’s 96 yards rushing, and a stingy defense led them to their first state playoff berth since 1981.

Minneapolis North captures boys’ basketball title No. 7
Minneapolis North captured its seventh championship in program history last Saturday, defeating North Woods 96-49 in Class A at the Target Center.
