For the first time in team history, the Minnesota Timberwolves accomplished a 4-0 sweep of the Phoenix Suns in round one of the NBA Western Conference playoffs.
The Timberwolves, with players Anthony Edwards, Karl-Anthony Townes, Rudy Gobert, Mike Conley, Jaden McDaniels, Naz Reid, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Kyle Anderson, Jordan McLaughlin, Monte Morris, Wendell Moore Jr. Josh Minott, Leonard Miller, and Luka Garcia all contributing, defeated a team with the Suns’ “Big Three” in Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.
Here’s how they did it.
Game 1: Minnesota 120 Phoenix 95, Saturday, April 20, Target Center, Minneapolis
Edwards exploded for 33 points, and Gobert dominated the boards with 16 rebounds while adding 14 points. Conley dished out a team-high seven assists.
Game 2: Minnesota 105 Phoenix 93, Tuesday, April 23, Target Center, Minneapolis
McDaniels stepped up with a team-leading 25-point effort. Gobert added 18 with a team-leading nine rebounds while Edwards served as facilitator with eight assists with 15 points.
Game 3: Minnesota 126 Phoenix 109, Friday, April 26, Footprint Center, Phoenix
Edwards’ outstanding play continued with a 33-point and nine rebounds effort. Gobert’s 19 points and 14 rebounds were his second double-double of the series. Conley led the way with seven assists.
Game 4 Minnesota 122 Phoenix 116, Sunday, April 29, Footprint Center, Phoenix
Edwards leads the way with 40 points, Townes adds 28 and 10 rebounds, and Conley chips in 10 points and nine rebounds.
