MAP for Nonprofits (MAP) recently announced the selection of Thompson Aderinkomi of Minneapolis as a 2011 Board Star in recognition of his exemplary service to his nonprofit board of directors.
Aderinkomi, of Minneapolis, serves on the board of directors for WATCH, which works to make the justice system more effective and responsive in handling cases of violence against women and children.
Within three months of joining the board of WATCH, Aderinkomi was voted treasurer and immediately took an active role in planning for the organization’s financial future and recommending improvements to accounting practices. He also brought new enthusiasm and leadership to board fundraising. Recently, Aderinkomi began serving the organization as board chair.
According to his nominator, ”Thompson is an outgoing, personable ambassador for WATCH. He is an exemplary board member who invests considerable time, energy and talent in WATCH, and who has clearly made a personal commitment to contributing to our success.”
A Board Star honor also was given to Mary Serie of Crystal, who serves on the board of directors for Phyllis Wheatley Community Center, which provides programs in lifelong learning, child development and family support to the diverse Greater Minneapolis community.
The annual Board Stars recognition is sponsored by MAP, a nonprofit management consulting organization that recruits and refers Twin Cities professionals to nonprofit boards of directors and provides training and coaching for nonprofit board members and board chairs.
Professionals interested in serving on a nonprofit board are encouraged to complete the volunteer application on www.mapfornonprofits.org. They will then be contacted for a follow-up interview.
