[Editor’s note: last week’s “Prep Scene” on the 17th Annual Inner City All-Star Classic included some inaccurate information. This week’s column corrects those errors. Our apologies for any confusion.]
Mr. Basketball winner JOE COLEMAN (Hopkins), Pioneer Press Player of the Year ESTAN TYLER, Miss Basketball winner RACHEL BANHAM (Lakeville North), and all-metro guard BRIANNA WILLIAMS (Hopkins) are among the players who will participate in the 18th Annual Inner City All Star Classic to be held at the University of St. Thomas on Sunday, June 19.
Developed by former Minneapolais North standouts DEREK REUBEN and RALPH CROWDER in 1994, the game features some of the top male and female senior basketball players in the metro area.
Originally, the game was to be a one-game protest because no players from Class AA champion Minneapolis Washburn or Class A title winner St. Agnes (the Minnesota State High School League went to a four-class tournament in ‘97) were selected to participate in the annual All-State-All Metro series. The girls’ game was included in 2001.
