Black Twin Cities has designated August 18 as Buy Black Day Twin Cities 2012, a day dedicated to increasing economic development in Minnesota’s African American communities.
It is a day complete with a call to action: the owner of Black Twin Cities is challenging the company’s 3,000+ fans, followers and subscribers to “purchase only from local, Black-owned companies” for one day. The challenge seems simple enough, but how many people will participate?
“I’m not sure how many people will participate on August 18,” says La Juana Whitmore, owner of Black Twin Cities, “but even if only a few of our fans purchase from just one Black-owned business that they had not tried before, the day is a success.
“What I do know is that it is the perfect opportunity for small businesses to get targeted exposure to people who want to buy from them.”
Black Twin Cities is a family of websites featuring the Minneapolis/St. Paul African American community created in 2010 by La Juana Whitmore, a software and business development consultant for a Minnesota-based Fortune-100 company.
