On May 1, hundreds participated in a series of Black Lives Matter rallies in support of the 36 protesters who were arrested at the Mall of America demonstration last December. The protests coincided with International Workers’ Day and in solidarity of workers’ rights.

The day started at the courthouse in Edina, where 31 of the 36 protesters had their second pretrial. High school students in several metro high schools staged a walkout to protest police brutality in Baltimore, Maryland and across the nation. Many marched to Martin Luther King Park in South Minneapolis, where after a barbecue and concert, they marched down Nicollet Avenue to join a workers’ rights demonstration.

The demonstrators then continued to march down Nicollet Avenue to the Government Center Plaza to listen to several speakers sound off on the importance of workers’ rights.
