On May 1, hundreds participated in a series of Black Lives Matter rallies in support of the 36 protesters who were arrested at the Mall of America demonstration last December. The protests coincided with International Workersโ€™ Day and in solidarity of workersโ€™ rights.

The day started at the courthouse in Edina, where 31 of the 36 protesters had their second pretrial. High school students in several metro high schools staged a walkout to protest police brutality in Baltimore, Maryland and across the nation. Many marched to Martin Luther King Park in South Minneapolis, where after a barbecue and concert, they marched down Nicollet Avenue to join a workersโ€™ rights demonstration.

The demonstrators then continued to march down Nicollet Avenue to the Government Center Plaza to listen to several speakers sound off on the importance of workersโ€™ rights.
