Southside festival gets rave reviews

With an awesome turnout and a beautiful day for the 11th Annual 38th & Chicago BBQ & Music Festival, all the good energy and good vibes prevailed. The June 14 festival was the largest of the events to date.

Among the over 800 people attending, typical responses to the event were: “This is wonderful, ” “I am so glad that they have this event,” “This is great,” “I’m having a blast!” and many other great comments.

There were attendees from all over the city — South Side, North Side, St. Paul — who stopped by to participate in the fun events. The day was packed with entertainment from various artists: some jazz, R&B, rock, Aztec Dancers, Embrace the Light Stilt Walkers, face painting, ping pong in the street, chalk art, pop-up events at two separate locations, lots of good food (hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, watermelon, corn on the cob, baked beans, fruit, German chocolate squares) and much more.

The organizers congratulate everyone who worked hard on putting it together, all the members of the 38th & Chicago Business Association, Minneapolis Department of Health, Ward 8th Office, and all the volunteers and the community members. There could not have had such an awesome event without their efforts.

Residents and the community were also very generous with their donations. There is already excitment about the future of this event and its continuing growth each year. Event planners hope to see everyone next year and extend a great big “Thank you” from the Business Association.
