Minneapolis North’s football team is headed back to the state football playoffs for the second straight season after defeating Mayer Lutheran 50-21 in the Class 1A Section 4 championship game at St. John’s University in Collegeville last Saturday evening.
The Polars, coached by Charles Adams, come into the state quarterfinals sporting a 10-0 record behind a high-powered offense led by do-it-all quarterback and University of Minnesota recruit Tyler Johnson, and three of the best prep receivers Minnesota has to offer in junior Isaac Johnson and seniors Malik Matthews and Patrick Dempley.
The Polars made it to the state semifinals last year before losing to Dawson-Boyd. North also made state appearances in 1998, 2000, 2003, 2009 and 2014.
They play Tracy-Milroy-Balton at Gustavus College in St. Peter on Saturday at 11 am.
