The Orioles had narrow victories in the state playoffs culminating in a 14-13 victory over East Ridge at TCF Stadium a couple of weeks ago to capture the Class 6A state football title.
The Orioles — under the direction of Head Coach Derrin Lamer and assistants Mike Johnson, Jason Moden, Corey Boyer, Craig Oliphant, Royce Winford, Andy Johnson, Nate Plasch and Ryan Collins — came into the section playoffs with a 5-3 regular-season record.
The Orioles, who won their first championship ever after appearances in 1982, ’83, ’84, ’86, ’87, ’89, ’93 and 2013, got dominating performances from the following players in the title game.
Quarterback Malik Gaillard passed for 143 yards in the championship game. The dual threat has been consistent all season.
Running Back Prince Kruah rushed for 139 yards and scored the winning touchdown in the title game.
Receiver Damario Armstrong caught 10 passes for 139 yards and a touchdown.
Cornerback Quincy Williams led the way with nine tackles, linebackers Kordell Russell, and Armstrong had six each, while defensive end George Foley and linebacker Jack Kraemer chipped in five apiece.
A great way for Osseo to end its brilliant season.
