On Tuesday, August 2, community members across the nation gathered for another National Night Out (NNO). Celebrated the first Tuesday in August each year, NNO encourages residents to get to know their neighbors by holding block parties to increase community awareness, aid in crime prevention and improve police-community relations — a very timely issue considering the civil unrest across the nation over recent police shootings.
Below are images from the NNO gathering on 36th & Portland Ave. in South Minneapolis, which was attended by residents in the area and nearby organizations and businesses, including Sabathani Community Center and the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder.
