The Minnesota State Fairgrounds will be bathed in purple August 26 to honor Minnesota’s native son, the late musical legend Prince. Organizers are asking attendees to come together in their best purple attire and Prince gear and enjoy rides and buildings lit up in purple. There will be Prince music, tributes, and covers at various stages throughout the fairgrounds and a Prince Party in the Park at Carousel Park, with dancing led by GenerationsNOW’s DJ Dudley D — Prince’s personal DJ.
Festivities will also include a Minnesota State Fair Fireworks Spectacular set entirely to Prince music and featuring a special pyrotechnic Prince tribute, following Charlie Wilson and Fantasia’s concert at the Grandstand, which takes place the same night. The first 5,000 guests through the gates after 5 pm will receive special Unite in Purple glow bracelets, and the first 7,500 will receive Unite in Purple buttons to commemorate the occasion. In related news, the family of the late icon recently announced that an official Prince Tribute concert will take place at the U.S. Bank Stadium October 13. Tickets will reportedly go on sale in August (a specific date has yet to be announced).
