
This year, C.O.P.E’s 12th Annual Scholarship Program/Gala and Fundraiser will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at the Airport Hilton Hotel-Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota from 4 to 7:30 pm.
The Gala includes a silent auction, dinner, and a presentation by Miss Ayana Imari Anderson, a C.O.P.E Scholar. Also, the guest speakers for the evening will be Dr. Edward Mairura, an Orthopedic Surgeon from Dallas, Texas, and Dr. Monica Lewis Miller from Jackson State University, Jackson, Mississippi
The Gala is the annual scholarship celebration where the proceeds will fund scholarships for the 2017 fall semester. C.O.P.E will recognize students in several categories to include awards for ACT/SAT Perfect Attendance, Outstanding Volunteer Community Service, Highest GPA, and Participation. Additionally, the event will recognize COPE’s Family of the Year and other community leaders who are strong advocates and supporters of the organization.
The Scholars of Minnesota-C.O.P.E Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to assist underrepresented students in obtaining educational opportunities, financial support, and other resources necessary to reach their highest academic, professional, and personal goals. Due to the community’s support last year (2016), 30 students received scholarships for the fall semester. Furthermore, several youth were awarded laptops and iPads to use while attending college.

Originally from the Saint Paul suburban area, Calvin-Allen Mickel Miller is a 1999 graduate of Saint Thomas Military Academy (Mendota Heights, Minnesota). In May 2004, he completed his Bachelor of Arts’ degree in English and Journalism with a minor in broadcasting from Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. He is a certified Food Safety Specialist and Consultant for Miller’s Implementation Group Services, LLC. Currently, Miller is employed with Campbell Soup Company as a Territory Sales Representative for Jackson, Mississippi. He and his wife (Dr. Monica Sanae Lewis Miller) reside in Madison, Mississippi. They have two boys, Ashton, age 13 and Camahry, age 8.
