
Ni Ora Hokes was awarded a Doctor of Education degree with a focus on Leadership during the Commencement Convocation at the Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota Schools of Graduate and Professional Programs, Twin Cities Campus on Saturday, October 14. She received enthusiastic cheers from family members and close friends.
Hokes, a resident of the North Minneapolis area, exemplifies the servant-leadership, which has driven her to dedicate over 45 years of work towards the elimination of the social determinants of health and inequality for people of African descent in the Twin Cities.
She is a life-long learner and has received numerous educational accomplishments and noteworthy recognitions, including the 2006 University of Minnesota Josie R. Johnson Human Rights & Social Justice award and the 2005 McKnight Foundation Virginia Binger McKnight Human Service award.
