Fred “Freddie” L. Estes

February 21, 1933 – March 8, 2018

Fred Estes

Fred L. Estes, was born in Baxter Springs, Kansas on February 21, 1933 and passed away on March 8, 2018, at the age of 85.

Freddie will be remembered for his love of God, dedication to his family, church, community and his beautiful singing. Freddie worked as an administrator at the University of MN Medical School, leaving in 1984 to work full-time in the Hallmark Greeting Card business, which he began in 1972.

In 1987, Fred and Earline opened Estes Gifts and News at the Mpls St. Paul Int’l Airport. Survived by his children, Lisa and Frederic, granddaughter, Jessica Broaden, sister, Margie Wright, and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Earline N. Estes, parents, Ray and Veoma Estes, sister, Rayma Wiggins, and brother, Richard Estes. Visitation will be held at Zion Baptist Church, 621 Elwood Ave. N. Minneapolis, MN 55411, from 4-8 PM, on Friday, March 23.

Flowers may be sent to Zion. Service will be held at Breck Chapel, 123 Ottawa Ave. N., Golden Valley, on Saturday, March 24, at 11 AM. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fred L. and Earline N. Estes Diversity Scholarship at the U of M: makingagift.umn.edu.  Go to the undergraduate scholarship tab, choose scholarships at Twin Cities colleges and choose “other.” Estes Funeral Chapel, 612-521-6744
