Ina Ree (Sanders) Horris
February 3, 1931 – April 14, 2018
Ina Ree (Sanders) Horris was born February 3, 1931, in Shuqualak, MS and departed this life April 14, 2018.
In 1946, at age 16, Ina moved to St. Paul, MN. She is a graduate of St. Paul Central High School. Ina married James C. Horris, Sr. on January 2, 1951, at Pilgrim Baptist Church in St. Paul, MN. They were married 55 years. Ina was a member and usher. After marrying James, she became a member and usher at St. Peter AME Church and member of the Jolly 16 auxiliary.
In 2001, Ina retired after 30-plus years as an educational assistant in the Minneapolis Public Schools. Ina was a member of the Minnesota Federation of Teachers Educational Union Local No. 59 Educational Support Professionals, where she served as president and in other capacities. She was a member of the Friday Night Out Club and Sabathani Senior Center.
2008, Ina moved to Mount Olivet Home & Careview in Minneapolis, MN, where she was treated like family.
Ina was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Horris, Sr.; son, James C. Horris, Jr.; parents, Johnny W. Sanders and Ivory C. (Coleman) Sanders; and sister, Johnny M. Foxx.
Ina leaves two daughters, Minister Sheron D. Horris, RN of Minneapolis, MN and Linette C. (Graylin) Ward of Sharpsburg, Georgia; five grandchildren, Vaughn R. (Kimiko) Doniphan of St. Louis Park, MN, Jordin E. Ward, Graylin H. Ward, Braxtin S. Ward, and Morgin R. Ward, all of Sharpsburg, GA; great grandchild Vaughn J. Doniphan of St. Louis Park, MN; nephews, Quintus (Beverly) Teer and Cornelius “Carl” Teer both of Cleveland, OH, and Dr. Hubert H. (Tessie) Byron, II, DMD of Princeton, WV; niece, Ivy Mae Comer of San Antonio, TX; and other relatives and friends.
