The aesthetic at the Minneapolis Marriot West Hotel was upstaged Saturday, May 26, by 200 high fashion attendees at It’s Your Affair’s “Big Hat Luncheon.” Ladies and gentlemen, as young as seven and as old as 80, gathered at the 10-year anniversary celebration with one common band: their love of elegant, one-of-a-kind headpieces. Common folk call them church hats, but these fashion-forward attendees took it to another level, rocking their finest fedoras, fascinators and, even, crowns.
The three-hour event served all the ingredients of a high-class afternoon, including a red carpet photo session. The banquet hall was transformed into a Big Hat wonderland with tables and chairs custom-decorated, and a centerpiece hat designed by Angie’s Hats. Menia Buckner served as Mistress of Ceremonies and live band Big Homie served up some jazzy vibes. Other performers included Mya Marchelle, Bernice Gregory and comedian Juice Sutton.
Each year, It’s Your Affair hosts the festive event to celebrate the rich history and culture of hats in the Black community. They look forward to expanding their reach with events in Atlanta and beyond.
