Hands-on training for youth
Goodwill-Easter Seals of Minnesota has announced openings for its next YouthBuild training program beginning July 23, 2018. The national pre-apprenticeship program provides hands-on construction training and leadership skills development at no cost to local youth, ages 16-24.
The 20-week course includes instruction in construction concepts, tool use, blueprints, math and measuring, drywall, siding, roofing, and deconstruction. During the training, students will complete their high school education as well as receive assistance with creating resumes, job search and applications, interview coaching, retention and advancement. Students will also be connected with union and industry speakers and tours.
Classes take place Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. Upon completion, students will have the opportunity to receive an OSHA 10-hour completion card.
To qualify, youth should be interested in working towards a GED or high school completion (not currently enrolled in high school) and in developing work and leadership skills.”
