Black Votes Matter MN has issued a call-to-action for the Black community to vote on Friday, November 2, Sunday, November 4, and on Election Day, Tuesday, November 6. Voters are encouraged to descend on the polls at select early voting locations around the Twin Cities metropolitan area.
In partnership with the Council of Minnesotans of African Heritage (CMAH), ACLU Minneapolis and NAACP Minneapolis, the coalition is hoping to increase voter turnout in the African American community, where voting has been historically low.
The call-to-action begins Friday, November 2, with action sites at the Minneapolis Urban League in North Minneapolis and the Martin Luther King Jr. Center in St. Paul. Representatives from each organization will be present taking pictures, shaking hands and answering any questions. Light refreshments will be provided.
Next, the collaborative is hosting a Souls to the Polls brunch at the Minneapolis Urban League, Sunday, November 4 from 2 pm-5 pm. Northside churches and other faith-based groups, and the community-at-large, are invited to come out to enjoy a warm meal, fellowship and vote. Free parking and flexible hours also make it easier for voters to access the polls.
A similar effort is taking place in St. Paul, driving voters to the early vote center located at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center.
Early voting at these locations is from October 30th through Tuesday November 5. After that, voters must vote at their designated polling location on Election Day. To look it up, visit: https://pollfinder.sos.state.mn.us.
