Suggs excelling in two sports

A week and half ago, quarterback Jalen Suggs was leading the St. Paul Academy/ Minnehaha Academy/ Blake (SMB) football team to the Class AAAA state football championship.
Last Saturday the junior, one of the top guards in the country, scored 30 points in leading defending Class AA boys’ basketball champion Minnehaha Academy to a season-opening victory over Perham.
Suggs is becoming one of the best dual athletes in recent memory.
Curtis, Galloway, Rhoades and New lead Minnehaha
Mia Curtis led the way with 18 points, Nevaeh Galloway had 16, Taytum Rhoades added seven, and Avery New chipped in six and hauled down nine rebounds as Minnehaha Academy defeated Rush City 52-42 in a Breakdown Girls’ Basketball Classic last week at Hopkins.
Jones leading DeLaSalle
Guard Elaina Jones is averaging 23 points per game for the DeLaSalle Islanders’ girls’ basketball team. The senior, who recently signed with Idaho State University, reached her scoring average in a 59-49 setback to Alexandria.
Bell’s scoring leads U of M
Former Bloomington Kennedy girls’ basketball standout Kenisha Bell scored 27 points in leading the University of Minnesota women’s basketball team to a 67-50 victory over Air Force to keep the Gophers undefeated.
The Gophers are ranked #14 nationally.
