This week, the Twins kick off Diversity Week with inclusive events for women and people of color.

With everything from multicultural performances to youth pitching clinics to a school supply drive for children in need, the Twins are using this opportunity to emphasize our rich diversity in Minnesota.

The festivities started on Monday, August 19 and run until Saturday, August 24.

Now in its fourth year, this day is all about empowering women and physical fitness, which local Two Haute Mamas hosts Lindy and Sheletta are very passionate about.

Twins Senior Community Relations Coordinator Sondra Ciesielski was a guest on the Two Haute Mamas podcast and says it’s all about using baseball to inspire women to live their best lives.

“We are giving women a chance to have a day of their own to do what our professional baseball players do every day,” she said. “Women will participate in skills workshops, listen to a baseball panel, meet new friends, eat some great food and have a good time.”

Ciesielski says women who sign up for the event don’t have to know how to play the game to participate in the Women’s Baseball Experience at Target Field.

“That’s the best part, you don’t even have to have any skills. You can be a veteran softball player or a rookie or someone who has never played baseball a day in your life. This event is all about getting women together so that they can either learn new things or practice old skills. It’s about coming together and having a great day. It’s about getting active and having a lot of fun.”

Having fun is the theme for the day’s event, but Ciesielski says it’s also about giving women an opportunity they wouldn’t otherwise have.

“We want women to know that baseball is for everyone,” Ciesielski said. “Back in the day, women and young girls weren’t given an opportunity play sports or encouraged to participate in baseball. Now all these years later, we are providing an opportunity for women to get involved with the Twins organization. So we are offering these amazing new opportunities and making it inclusive to everyone.”

In addition to hitting balls in the batting cages and pitching in the bullpen, women who sign up will receive two tickets to a future Twins game, an exclusive t-shirt, and a buffet luncheon at Target Field.
