Defense contributes to North victory

Senior defensive lineman Quientrail Jamison-Travis had seven tackles, fellow classmate and lineman Darius Hanson returned a fumble 36 yards for a touchdown, and sophomore defensive back Meiko Anderson had one interception, leading Minneapolis North to a 26-6 opening season victory over St. Paul Johnson last Friday evening.

Both teams made it to the state playoffs at U.S. Bank Stadium last season with North finishing runner-up in Class 2A and Johnson making it to the Class 4A semifinals.

The defensive performances of Jamison-Travis, Hanson and Anderson led the way for the offensive contributions from senior quarterback Zach Yeager (97-yard TD), sophomore running back Rico Sanders (97-yard TD catch and nine-yard TD pass), junior receiver Dominic McMillan (nine-yard TD reception), and junior backfield mate Terrance Kamara.

Joey Moberg, a junior running back who played quarterback last season, scored for the Governors on a 41-yard fumble return.

Yeager, who led the Polars as a sophomore last season, completed eight passes for 225 yards, also adding 65 yards rushing. Kamara rushed for 75 yards on 20 attempts. Sanders caught five passes for 195 yards. Sophomore Willie Wilson had a 37-yard punt return.

Good start for the Polars and Coach Charles Adams.
