Tammy Rae Yarbrough made her transition from life here on Earth Aug. 23, 2019. She was diagnosed with the rare and aggressive cancer Leiomyosarcoma in January.
With levity, she would say, “It would take me and only me to get a rare cancer.” Tammy’s struggle to overcome her health challenges was valiant. Her strength and perseverance have been an inspiration to us all.
Tammy’s faith in God was her encouragement and inner strength until the end of her life. She was preceded in death by her son Jody, her father Samuel; grandparents Allen and Lilliemae Shannon and Dike and Deare Mae Yarbrough and great-grandparents Sanford and Anges Tyler.
She is survived by children John Jr. (Korissa), Jarrell (Amanda), Jamar, Michael, Malik (Andrea) and James aka Petey. She is also survived by grandchildren Ahveonna, Jahveon, John III and Leelani; brothers Sammy, Rick, Tony, and Troy; brother in Christ Frances Tucker; her mother Ruth Shannon-Yarbrough, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, a grandnephew, nieces, and friends.
The homegoing celebration for Tammy will be held on Friday, Sept. 6 at the Unitarian Universalist Church, located at 733 Portland Ave in St. Paul. The gathering begins with a memorial from 11 am to noon, with a celebration of life starting at noon and a repast meal after the celebration.
