There was no panel discussion at Sister Spokesman’s “Keep It Movin’ Health Fair” on Jan. 4. Instead, attendees partook in an afternoon of interactive fun geared towards health and fitness. Led by fitness experts Brandi Phillips and Nadvia Davis (see page 7), participants sampled collard green wraps (see recipe below) and smoothies recipes, and learned Zumba and easy, five-minute exercise routines.
Blood pressure and memory checks were provided by Volunteers of America’s Culturally Responsive Caregiver Support + Dementia Services in between the shopping, networking, and music by KMOJ’s Q Bear.
The event, sponsored NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center, was held at the organization’s conference center in North Minneapolis. Seward Coop donated healthy food for the occasion.
Next up: Sister Spokesman will continue its focus on wellness with “Love Thyself: Self-Care 101” on Feb. 1 at LifeSource, located at 2225 West River Rd. N. in Minneapolis.
See below for Brandi Phillips’ popular collard green wrap recipe as seen at Sister Spokesman’s “Keep It Movin Health Fair.
