The mother of Atatiana Jefferson, who was shot and killed by a Fort Worth, Texas police officer last October while sitting in her home, died January 9. Ironically, Jefferson’s mother, Yolanda Carr, died in the same house where her daughter was shot and killed. She was 55 years old.
Carr had been suffering from medical problems and had been getting treatment for congestive heart failure. She had been hospitalized after her daughter was killed by police. Her daughter had only recently moved into her mother’s house to help care for her before she was fatally shot.
Atatiana’s father, Marquis Jefferson, died in November, less than a month after his daughter’s tragic death. A family spokesperson said, “He ultimately just succumbed to, I don’t know, I can only say a broken heart,” Carter said. “He just never recovered from the grieving process.” He was 59 years old.
