Free mental health support groups across the greater Twin Cities

NAMI Minnesota (National Alliance on Mental Illness), a nonprofit dedicated to improving the mental health of adults and children, is sponsoring free support groups for families and friends of individuals living with a mental illness.

Led by trained facilitators who also have a family member with mental illness, the support groups help families develop better coping skills and find strength through sharing their experiences.

A family support group meets on the third Thursday of each month, from 7-8:30 pm at St. Barnabas Lutheran Church, 15600 Old Rockford Rd. in Plymouth. For information, call Elizabeth at 612-432-0471.

Another family support group hosted by NAMI MN meets in Eden Prairie on the second & fourth Tuesday of each month, from 7-8:30 pm at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 13600 Technology Dr. For information, call Carol at 952-426-0343.

NAMI Minnesota also sponsors a support group specifically for partners or spouses of someone who lives with a mental illness. The Partners & Spouses support group meets in Minneapolis on the first Friday of the month from 6:30-8:30 pm at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, 50th and Knox Ave. in Minneapolis.
