The Interstate 35W Bridge, Target Field, U.S. Bank Stadium and other landmarks and buildings across the state will glow in blue light Thursday night, April 9, to honor healthcare providers and essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The lightings are part of a worldwide campaign called #LightItBlue.
During the first “Light It Blue” event in the United Kingdom two weeks ago, organizers say more than 130 buildings, bridges, and landmarks glowed blue. Thursday’s event will be the first in the United States, but organizers hope to encourage other “Light it Blue” tributes in the coming weeks.
The I-35W Bridge is equipped with a computerized lighting system that allows the agency to color the bridge with light in almost any color. It is often lit in various colors for significant regional, national and international events.
