Funeral and memorial services have been announced for George Floyd. There will be three services in total in three states, befitting the level of outcry and attention his death has garnered.

Floyd died on Memorial Day after fired MPD police officer Derek Chauvin pressed his knee to Floyd’s neck as he lay on the pavement handcuffed and on his stomach for more than eight minutes.

A private memorial service will be held in Minneapolis at North Central University 1400 Elliot Ave S. Minneapolis from 1-3 pm on Thursday, June 4 with another memorial service to follow on Saturday, June 6 in North Carolina where Floyd was born.

Lastly, Floyd’s funeral and burial will take place in Houston, Texas, on June 9 where Floyd grew up and spent most of his childhood. A public viewing will take place a day before.

Rev. Al Sharpton will deliver the eulogy at the Minneapolis service, which is closed to the public. Boxing champ Floyd Mayweather has offered to cover the costs of the funeral and memorial services.

The MSR will update this story when more info becomes available.
