Community members in Minneapolis scrambling for fresh food after businesses along Lake Street were ravished by recent rioting can now shop at Cub Foods’ new pop-up tent market.
Cub Foods opened the Community Market, a 13,000 square ft shop full of fresh fruit, dairy, meat, and other essential items, on Wednesday, July 8. The store also includes a pharmacy.
The tented market is set up in the parking lot of the larger Cub Foods store off of E. Lake Street, which is temporarily closed for repairs. Other nearby stores that offer groceries, Target and Aldi’s, remain closed due to looting and property damage.
The pop-up shop is open from 8 am to 8 pm, Monday through Sunday. Cub is also offering free hourly bus rides to its Quarry store on New Brighton Boulevard in Northeast Minneapolis for people who need a fuller shopping experience.
Cub has plans to open a similar pop-up shop in North Minneapolis on West Broadway later this month. Northside shoppers in need will be offered free rides to the full Cub Foods store in Crystal.
