May 22, 1953 — October 31, 2020

Richard King Johnson was born May 22, 1953 in Minneapolis to Dr. Thomas H. and Henrietta F. Johnson, Jr. In his youth, he was a member of St. Peters A.M.E Church Sunday School and the Youth Choir. At Washburn High School he was an athlete on the track team and the gymnastics team, graduating in 1971.

In 1975 he graduated from Morris Brown College in Atlanta, where he was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He attended the University of Kentucky Medical School. He was a passionate educator, often spending hours tutoring. In Los Angeles, CA. he taught middle and high school; he also taught at Morehouse College in Atlanta.

Richard was also an entrepreneur, focusing on educational ideas. He loved children, taking them to parks, museums and cultural events. He enjoyed genealogy, history, politics, reading, jazz, winter sports and baseball.

Richard passed away in Atlanta on Halloween 2020. He is in heaven having a spirited conversation with our mom and dad for as many hours as he would like. He was a beloved brother, uncle and a father-figure to his nephews and nieces.
