Legendary golfer Tiger Woods is in the hospital following a single-car accident in L.A. County Tuesday morning, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.
During a news briefing, officials revealed that Woods was reportedly found conscious and in “stable condition.”
Per the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department:
“On February 23, 2021, at approximately 7:12 AM, LASD responded to a single-vehicle roll-over traffic collision on the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Ranchos Palos Verdes.
“The vehicle was traveling northbound on Hawthorne Boulevard, at Blackhorse Road, when it crashed. The vehicle sustained major damage. The driver and sole occupant was identified as PGA golfer, Eldrick ‘Tiger’ Woods.”
Although the L.A. County Sherriff’s Office tweeted out that Woods had to be removed from the car with the “jaws of life,” it was later revealed that first responders used an ax and a halligan tool to “extract” Woods from the vehicle.
The full extent of Woods’ injuries is unknown at this time, though according to a CNN report, he suffered a shattered ankle, a compound leg fracture, and has been in surgery for the greater part of the day. In recent years, Woods, a 15-time major champion, has taken time away from golf due to back injuries. He told CBS’ Jim Nantz on Sunday that he was waiting for MRI results before returning to golf competition.
