A capacity crowd at Maturi Pavilion last Friday evening watched as Stephanie Samedy had 30 kills, 17 digs, and three blocks to lead the No. 9-ranked University of Minnesota volleyball team (5-3) to a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the University of Michigan (6-3) in the Big 10 conference opener for both teams.
Jeanna Wenaas had 11 kills, Airi Miyabe added 110 kills, and Taylor Landfair contributed eight kills for the Gophers.
The Gophers won the first two sets with ease before the Wolverines took the next two sets to force a force the tiebreaker.
Minnesota took over from there.
