Gov. Walz declares Jan. 13, 2022, ‘Mel Reeves Day’ in the State of Minnesota

Governor Tim Walz declared Thursday, January 13, 2022, as “Mel Reeves Day” in the State of Minnesota.

“Minnesota is better for Mel Reeves’s voice and work, and he will be greatly missed,” Gov. Walz noted on Facebook, citing Reeve’s rich legacy as a human rights activist, journalist, and community leader.

Reeves died January 6, 2022, at age 64 after battling COVID-19 and pneumonia. He had a long and storied history working at the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder, most recently as the community editor.

Gov. Walz’s declaration Thursday morning was issued before family, friends, and community members gathered to honor and remember Reeves at his homegoing Thursday evening at Shiloh Temple International Ministries in North Minneapolis.
