Anthony “Joe” Mitchell was born to the late James and Syretha P. Mitchell in Peoria, Illinois, on January 1, 1957. He had a very close relationship with his mother and father and loved his entire family.
Joe grew up in Greater St. Paul Church of God and Christ (C.O.G.I.C) and accepted Christ at an early age. If you were extremely close to Joe, you would know that he was a very spiritual man.
Joe was blessed with a beautiful and loving family. He was happily married to Anita Grotte on July 3, 1982, and had three beautiful children.
Joe worked at Curran’s Restaurant as a chef and head cook for over 25 years and was in the process of starting his own takeout meals. He loved to sew, and he also loved to make his appearance resemble Wolfman Jack.
Joe was funny and everyone loved him for his smile. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones.
Joe is survived by his only living Aunt Rosie (88 years old); his sons Jeremiah (Jennifer) Mitchell and Joe (Whitney) Mitchell, Jr.; his daughter Kay Mitchell Sway; grandchildren Tessa, Archer, Montgomery, Cora, and Noah; and his siblings Pamela, Lee, Anita, Kim, James, and Dejaunna.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother James and Syretha Mitchell; grandfather and grandmother George and Perlean Hodge; siblings Ruben “Butch” Hodge and Rhonda Baines; great-niece Khaleesi Smith; uncles EJ, Jim, Roy, Dale, and Rodger Hodge; and nephew Derangle “Dino” Riley, Sr.
A funeral service for Joe will take place on March 5, 2022, from 11 am to 1 pm at St. Philips Lutheran Church, located at 6180 Hwy 65, Fridley, MN 55432. A repast will follow the service.
