Minneapolis North, ranked No. 2 in Class A boys’ basketball, got 17 points from Willie Wilson, 14 from Jacob Butler and nine from Mario Sanders, leading the City Conference champion Polars to a 59-56 Twin City victory over St. Paul City Conference champion and host Johnson Governors before energetic fan bases representing both teams.
Ishmeal David led Johnson with 21 points, and backcourt mate Christian Jones added 15.
North, who has won eight conference championships in a row, also got contributions from De’Meiko Anderson, Auvon Sager, Zashon Rich and Gani Stevens.
Dhimani Tucker, Ka’Jon Jordan, Rickhi Graham and Daejohn Thomas provided support for the Governors.
In a show of sportsmanship, a moment of silence was held for Minneapolis North sophomore quarterback and honor roll student Deshaun Hill, who died at the hands of a gunman February 9 after school.
Hill led the Polars to the state football playoffs last fall.
