As those in charge of the awards show asserted they would “explore further action and consequences in accordance with our bylaws, standards of conduct and California law,” Smith issued a repentant tone for his role.

“Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable,” Smith wrote on his official Instagram page.

“Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.”

He continued: “I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line, and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.

“I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my ‘King Richard’ Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us.

“I am a work in progress.”

  1. Will Smith was more than out of line regarding his slapping of Chris Rock, and he is a blatant liar and hypocrite.

Will Smith laughed at the joke and only reacted, changing course when he saw the reaction of his wife Jada. All attendees and comics know that everyone is open to being made fun of by a comic in that setting. Will had ample time and opportunity to change course during the long walk up to the stage, he could have made a joke out of the whole situation in some kind of retort, not with anger and violence.

What he did was in no way a defense of his wife and family, it was bullying, ego on steroids, immense selfishness, immaturity, a great disregard for civility, great disregard for his fellow awardees and for his family, friends, and colleagues as his conduct marred the remaining portion of the evening and even the celebration of his Oscar.

What Will modeled was the most despicable kind of conduct and there should be severe repercussions…consequences
for his savage behavior. Will allowed his name and hype about him to be bigger than him as a person and human being, it also reminds one of road rage in which people become violent over the most ridiculous issues.

Chris Rock may have been insensitive, however, Will Smith’s
    conduct was gigantically absurd,
