
To honor Minneapolis’ favorite son Prince, KMOJ radio station is changing its positioning statement to Purple 89 Nine on April 21, the day Prince passed away six years ago.
KMOJ will feature its listeners’ favorite Prince songs and mixes by many of the artist’s favorite DJs. Among them is the late Julian White, also known as Brother Jules, who passed away in December 2021.
The tribute highlights the music Prince wrote and produced as well as many of the artists influenced by him.
Additionally, morning show hosts Freddie Bell and Chantel SinGs narrated a two-hour special on Saturday, April 16. The show recounted that tragic day of April 21, 2016, when the legendary artist passed away at his Paisley Park studios.
KMOJ-FM, operating under the nonprofit Center for Communication and Development, is a community radio station dedicated to training broadcasters and disseminating important information to communities of color.
