
Fun, family-friendly events will be taking place all across the Twin Cities area and beyond for the 4th of July weekend.
Due to staff shortages and construction, the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul will not be holding the traditional celebration that would have included fireworks over the Mississippi River.
As an alternative, there are a number of free community events—from marches for reproductive freedom to traditional parades—sprawled across the metro area. Find a few highlights below.
July 4, 2022

Get a healthy start to your Independence Day with a four-mile run. Cool down with refreshments and enjoy a post-race festival with games and treats for everyone.
10:30 am-noon @ 4135 E. Lake Harriet Pkwy., Mpls.
The city of Minneapolis is hosting a fun morning of music in the park coupled with the presence of caricature artists to capture you and your loved ones.
Fourth of July Parade and Party
10 am-1 pm @ 4802 Grand Ave. S., Mpls.
Come out for a festival of food, live music, and fun for all ages. This kid-friendly gathering includes a bouncy house, snow cones, inflatables and balloon art for the little ones. $5 cash per entry to access all attractions at the festival.
All-day! 10 am-10:30 pm @ 1501 Central Parkway, Eagan
Eagan’s 4th of July funfest has been providing a fun way to celebrate Independence day for over 50 years. This year’s funfest includes great food, a carnival for the kids, live music and entertainment, a large parade, and ends the night with spectacular fireworks.
Independence Day March for Reproductive Freedom
11 am @ 4800 Grand Ave. S., Mpls.
“There’s no independence if we all are not free to bodily autonomy.,” say event organizers. As a response to the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, protesters will peacefully gather to raise visibility for their cause.
1-3 pm @ 2401 E. Minnehaha Pkwy, Mpls.
Family-friendly Independence day celebration with something for the kids! Come out for yard games, balloon artists, a kids DJ, and more.
1-3 pm @ 4414 N. Upton Ave, Mpls.
Relax and enjoy a comedy show, family lawn games, and balloon artists for the kids. Ice cream will be available for purchase.
3-5 pm @ 690 13th Ave. N.E., Mpls.
There is something for everybody at this Fourth of July celebration. Sit back and listen to live music, get a portrait drawn by a caricature artist, and even be mesmerized by the acts of a strolling magician.
Tangletown Fourth of July Parade & Party
3-6 pm @ 4800 Grand Ave. S., Mpls.
This event offers fun for the whole family with food trucks and classic sno cones. Kids can play with inflatables, enjoy face-painting, and balloon art, plus the parade is back!
10 pm @ 4980 Lake Ave. N., White Bear Lake
For over 50 years, Manitou Days has been a three-week summer festival aiming to bring the community together. As the festival comes to an end on the 4th, come out and enjoy a night of fireworks, a flyover, and music.
