She isn’t among the statistical leaders, but fifth-year WNBA veteran Jordin Canada is a hot commodity this Athletes Unlimited (AU) season. “I was gonna pick her last week,” said Odyssey Sims of the 5’6″ player during Monday’s weekly media call. Sims is serving as a captain for the fourth time in her seven-week AU career.
This week she was able to select Canada for her squad. “I’m excited to have her on my team,” said Sims about Canada. “This was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. She knows how to win. She’s a good leader.”
AU Last Week
Team Williams went 3-0 last week, followed by Team Sims (2-1), Team Cloud (1-2), and Team Cole (0-3).
“We are trying to go 3 and 0 this week,” noted Sims, who’s atop the leaderboard with 1,583 points, the second-highest weekly leaderboard point total in AU history. The leaderboard consists of a combination of win points, stat points, and MVP points. The 5’8″ guard also led in scoring (23.7), assists (38), and steals (7).
When asked to briefly assess Week One, Sims told the MSR how important to get “the younger ones–the new players know how important it is to win each quarter if you can. You’ll see a lot of teams get three out of four, two out of four, but never four.”
Isabelle Harrison (1,520), NaLyssa Smith (1,405), Naz Hillmon (1,380), and Kelsey Mitchell (1,299) round out the top five after one week of play. “Last week was really exciting for me,” said Hillmon, who led all AU players with .591 field goal percentage.
