Why can’t we keep our student-athletes at home? How come they don’t want to represent maroon and gold? Those are two questions that usually come up in reference to men’s and women’s basketball at the University of Minnesota.
Well, Gopher head men’s basketball coach Ben Johnson, a former metro area prep star himself (DeLaSalle High School) and U of M men’s basketball player, has four local players in Dawson Garcia (Prior Lake), Braeden Carrington (Park Center), Joshua Ola-Joseph (Osseo, Compass Prep), and Pharrel Payne (Park of Cottage Grove), among the top eight in minutes played.
