After a wonderful, blessed life dedicated to God and family, Johnnie Ruth Jones passed early Monday morning on January 29th, 2024.
Johnnie Ruth was born on February 19, 1934, to her parents, Levelle and Maxie Jones in Rose Hill, Mississippi. Johnnie accepted Christ early at New Prospect Baptist Church. She graduated from Heidelberg’s Colored Schools, Jasper County, Mississippi, and later migrated to Minneapolis, MN with her family. Upon arrival to Minneapolis, Johnnie and family, quickly joined Sabathani Baptist Church (now Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church). Johnnie had a long working career at Falconer’s and Vogue Cleaners of Minneapolis, and Control Data of Bloomington, MN. Johnnie retired early, at age 55 from Control Data and then went to volunteer with Search Beyond Adventures chaperoning people with disabilities on trips to Canada, California, Branson, Missouri, etc. Johnnie was a huge Minnesota Twins fan and enjoyed taking her children and grandchildren to the Twins games. Johnnie was an avid gardener who shared her vegetables with church, family and friends.
Johnnie loved her large family and is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, son, Marvin Victory Jones, and grandson, Marcus Anthony Jones.
She is survived by children: Malcolm Jones (Amy), Harry Jones, Maxie Rockymore, Cathy Stephens; siblings: Levelle Jones (Laura) of Minneapolis; Ruby Bishop (Arthur) of Chicago and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services Saturday, February 24, 2024, 1:00 pm (Visitation), 2 pm (Service): Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 2600 E. 38th St. Minneapolis. MN 55406
