We’re thrilled to share that WCCO-TV has featured a special news story honoring the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder’s (MSR) 90th Anniversary. Titled “Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder, the state’s oldest Black-owned business, turns 90,” the segment highlights our significant milestone and celebrates our enduring legacy.
As Minnesota’s oldest Black-owned and Black-operated newspaper, the MSR has been a vital voice for the African American community since its founding by Cecil E. Newman in 1934. The WCCO-TV feature provides an in-depth look at our journey, from our early days to our current role in the community under the leadership of Tracey Williams-Dillard, our CEO and Publisher.
The news story not only commemorates our 90 years of service but also reflects on the impact the MSR has had on local journalism and community advocacy. It’s a wonderful tribute to our ongoing mission to provide impactful news coverage and support for the voices of Black Minnesotans.
We invite you to watch the full WCCO-TV segment below to gain insight into our history and achievements.
Thank you to WCCO-TV for this fantastic feature, and to all of our supporters for being a part of our journey. Here’s to celebrating 90 years of making a difference in our community!
