Using creativity to break free from guilt, fear, and limitations

On January 29, 2025, Black mothers are invited to step into a space of vulnerability, creativity, and liberation at The Art of Letting Go workshop, hosted by Black Family Blueprint. Taking place at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Minneapolis, this transformative event blends meditative writing, poetic expression, and symbolic plate-smashing to create a unique experience of healing and empowerment.

A Journey of Self-Expression and Healing

At the heart of the workshop lies the belief that self-expression can be a powerful tool for healing. Participants will engage in a meditative writing exercise guided by prompts, where theyโ€™ll learn foundational poetic devices and techniques to process negative emotions. These words will become more than just ink on a pageโ€”theyโ€™ll serve as a reflection of pain, resilience, and hope.

From there, attendees will transfer their poetry onto glass plates using acrylic paint and Sharpies, turning their words into physical works of art. The workshop culminates with a cathartic plate-smashing exercise, symbolizing the release of limitations, fears, and guilt that have weighed them down.
