MinnesotaCare is a lower-cost insurance program designed to help people who live in Minnesota get the health care coverage they need. Depending on your income, MinnesotaCare may be free.

MinnesotaCare was created over 30 years ago to make it easier for people to get affordable health insurance, even if they don’t qualify for Medical Assistance. (Medical Assistance is Minnesota’s Medicaid program.)

Having health insurance can have a big impact on your health and well-being — including your financial fitness. That’s because going without health insurance could be financially devastating if you get sick or have an accident.

Having health insurance makes it a lot easier to get the health care you and your family need. That’s because health insurance helps pay for your health care appointments and medications. MinnesotaCare offers comprehensive coverage that includes everything from immunizations and annual checkups to emergency care, behavioral health services, dental and vision services and more.

Some people who have MinnesotaCare pay a monthly premium based on their income, while others have no premium. Some people 21 and older who have MinnesotaCare pay cost-sharing, or copayments.

If you’re 65 or older and can’t get Medicare, you may also be eligible for MinnesotaCare. You may be eligible for MinnesotaCare if you live in Minnesota, meet the income limits, and don’t have access to affordable health insurance. As long as you live in Minnesota today, you can find out if you qualify.

Don’t worry about figuring out the application by yourself. Free help is available from a navigator based in your own community.

Don’t wait! Connect with a navigator today to find out about your options and see if you are eligible for MinnesotaCare. Navigators live in your community and speak your language. Their job is to help you understand what’s available and find the health insurance that meets you and your family’s needs. There is no charge for their services.

Having health insurance and getting regular care can keep you, your family, and your entire community healthy.
