Honoring the Legacy, Embracing the Future

February is a time to reflect on the triumphs, struggles, and resilience of Black people throughout history. The Black History Month Dinner, hosted by the Legacy Coordination Network (LCN), is more than just an evening of food and entertainmentโ€”itโ€™s a gathering of culture, education, and empowerment.

Join us on Saturday, February 8, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Brooklyn Park Community Activity Center (5600 85th Ave N, Minneapolis, MN 55443) for a night that celebrates the past, embraces the present, and looks toward the future of the African Diaspora.

A Celebration of Culture and Connection

This yearโ€™s dinner will highlight the deep ties between African Americans, the African Diaspora, and the continent of Africa itself. From cuisine to music, the evening will showcase the traditions that have shaped our shared identity. Expect a vibrant atmosphere filled with the rhythmic sounds of an African drum line, the electrifying energy of Omega Psi Phiโ€™s step performance, and the humor of a Nigerian heritage comedian who will bring laughter and joy to the occasion.

A Night of Inspiration and Impact

The evening will be hosted by Bruce LeRoy, setting the stage for an incredible lineup of speakers and performers. Brooklyn Park Mayor and LCN CEO/Founder Hollies Winston will open the night with words of leadership and empowerment. Keynote speaker Lebrent Speed will deliver an inspiring message, while special guest Jamecia Bennettโ€”a powerhouse vocalistโ€”will leave the audience moved with her performance.

Beyond entertainment, this event is about community action. The Legacy Coordination Network works to ensure that members of Minnesotaโ€™s African Diaspora have a strong voice in the policies that impact them. By coming together in celebration, attendees will also be supporting ongoing efforts to advance social and economic equity for Black communities.
