With roster turnover and the ever-evolving college basketball landscape, the Minnesota Gophers are looking to their incoming 2025 recruiting class for fresh talent and stability. Ranked 47th nationally by 247Sports, this class may not feature five-star headliners, but it does bring intriguing potential. With only four scholarship players currently projected to return for the 2025-26 season, the trio of Parker Jefferson, Jacob Ross, and Kai Shinholster could play pivotal roles in shaping the future of the program.
Let’s take a look at how Minnesota’s three high school signees are performing in their senior seasons.

Parker Jefferson – Center | Inglewood High School (CA)
The highest-rated recruit in Minnesota’s 2025 class, Jefferson (No. 167 in the 247Sports Composite rankings) has been a dominant force at Inglewood High School this season. Standing 6-foot-9, Jefferson has been a double-double machine, averaging 16.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game over 23 contests. Earlier this month, he showcased his versatility with a triple-double performance, solidifying his reputation as an elite rim protector and interior scorer.
Jefferson’s Inglewood squad is 22-6 and ranked 27th in California, per MaxPreps, proving he’s making an impact at a high level. His ability to control the paint on both ends could make him an early contributor for the Gophers next season.

Jacob Ross – Forward | SoCal Academy (CA)
Ranked No. 180 in the 2025 class, Ross brings explosive athleticism and a strong offensive game to Minnesota’s frontcourt. The 6-foot-5 forward, originally from Virginia, is wrapping up his high school career at SoCal Academy in California. While his full stats aren’t available, his impact has been evident—he was recently named a McDonald’s All-American nominee and has consistently showcased his above-the-rim finishing ability.
SoCal Academy has endured an up-and-down season, currently sitting at 5-5, but Ross remains a key piece of their attack. With his versatility on both ends, he has the potential to break into Minnesota’s rotation early in his college career.

Kai Shinholster – Guard | William Penn Charter (PA)
The lone guard in Minnesota’s 2025 recruiting class, Shinholster (No. 255 in the 247Sports Composite rankings) brings size (6-foot-5), court vision, and defensive instincts to the backcourt. Playing at William Penn Charter in Pennsylvania, he’s been a key playmaker for a team that has raced out to a 15-4 record, including a perfect 6-0 mark in conference play.
While individual statistics for Shinholster are limited, his ability to initiate offense and make an impact on the defensive end makes him an intriguing addition to the Gophers’ backcourt. Given his skill set and positional need, he could see early minutes, though redshirting remains a possibility depending on the final roster makeup.
Looking Ahead: How Will They Fit?
Minnesota currently has just four returning scholarship players (Frank Mitchell, Isaac Asuma, Kadyn Betts, and Grayson Grove), leaving eight open roster spots. Head coach Ben Johnson has proven adept at developing under-the-radar talent, but roster retention has been a challenge in the transfer portal era.
The upcoming months will bring movement in the portal, but Jefferson and Ross seem poised to earn immediate playing time, while Shinholster may be a longer-term project. With the Big Ten as competitive as ever, Minnesota will need these young recruits to make an impact—whether next season or down the road.
For now, all eyes are on their high school performances, where they continue to impress and build excitement for what’s to come in Minneapolis.
