A Rivalry Runs Deep
When two teams from the same city meet on the court, the stakes are always high. That was the case Friday night as the East Ridge Raptors and the Woodbury Royals clashed in more than just a regular-season gameโit was a battle for city bragging rights. The gym was electric, packed with students and parents from both schools, creating an atmosphere that felt like a playoff showdown.
Early Momentum Shift
From the opening tip, it was clear neither team was willing to back down. The first ten minutes were tightly contested, with both squads trading baskets and playing aggressive defense. But with just under five minutes left in the first half, East Ridge found its rhythm. The Raptors built a nine-point lead, forcing Woodbury to call a timeout in hopes of stopping the surge. By halftime, East Ridge remained in control, leading 37โ27.
For the Raptors, 6-foot-1 senior Dane Mueler led the charge early with 11 points, while junior Brady Burns added eight. Woodburyโs Muad Abdulrahim and Finn Norman kept their team in the fight, scoring seven and nine points, respectively.
The Second-Half Comeback

After the break, East Ridge came out firing. Sophomore Ryan Otoo caught fire from beyond the arc, draining three-pointers that helped extend the lead to 17. Just when it seemed the Raptors were set to cruise to victory, Woodbury mounted a furious comeback.
With just over four minutes remaining, Abdulrahim hit a jumper to cut the deficit to three. The momentum had completely shifted. With 1:11 left, Woodbury had clawed its way back to within a single point. The game was on the line.
Down to the Wire
In the closing moments, East Ridge fouled Mueler, sending him to the free-throw line with a chance to put the game away. He made the first but missed the second, giving Woodbury one final shot at the win. The Royals got the look they wanted, but the shot didnโt fall.
Final score: East Ridge 65, Woodbury 63.
Key Performers
Mueler led all scorers with 22 points, followed closely by Otooโs 21. Burns added 10 for the Raptors. Woodbury was paced by Abdulrahim with 16, while Norman and Gabe Rosinski chipped in 11 apiece.
A Rivalry Renewed
The Battle of Woodbury delivered everything fans could ask forโhigh energy, big plays, and a dramatic finish. With both teams showing flashes of brilliance, this wonโt be the last time these two programs make headlines. If this game was any indication, the next meeting will be just as intense.
